NEWS | Abu Dhabi hotels record double digit growth
Abu Dhabi’s 141 hotels and hotel apartments generated double digit growth in guest nights, revenue, occupancy and average-length-of-stay last month with guest arrivals nudging up 7% on the same month last year.
Figures just released by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), show 196,518 guests stayed in the emirate’s hotels and hotel apartments last month delivering 676,445 guest nights – a 23% rise on February 2012.

NEWS| Martin Cramer has been appointed General Manager at Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Cramer took over from former General Manager Thomas van Opstal who was in charge of the hotel from 2009 onwards. Prior to this role, Mr. Cramer held the position of General Manager at the Sheraton Muscat Hotel in Oman. He joined Starwood after his hotel management studies at the Sheraton Frankfurt, Germany.

Abu Dhabi will not issue new hotel licenses in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until further notice due to oversupply, said al-Rroya al-Eqtisadiyya paper, quoting Naser al-Riyami, an official in the Emirate's Tourism Authority. Despite an eight per cent decrease in the average length of stay in 2011, revenue from Abu Dhabi's hotels and hotel apartments accounted for Dh 3.96 billion, a four per cent increase over 2010. According to a report in Gulf News, 2011 saw the mean figure dip from 3.22 nights in November 2010 to 2.96 nights in November 2011. In addition' small dips were recorded in room, food and beverage, and other revenue contributors.

Ruprecht Schmitz has been appointed as general manager of Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi, taking over from Moine Kandil who has been promoted to director of operations for MEA at Millannium and Copthorne Hotels & Resorts. German-born Schmitz has worked for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels for the past 10 years in Europe and Asia, most recently in Singapore as the general manager of the 656-room, five-star Orchard Hotel Singapore.
Jumeirah debuts in Abu Dhabi
Dubai-based Jumeirah Group has opened its first property in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, located on the Arabian Gulf in the Ras Al Akhdar area of the UAE capital.
Consisting of 382 guestrooms and suites, 199 fully serviced residences, 12 F&B outlets, the Talise Spa and one of the largest conference centers in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers stands 919 feet (280 meters) tall.
Abu Dhabi to build new Destination Village
Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has unveiled its plans for a new specially-designed 55,000sq m (592,015sq ft) Destination Village on the Emirate state's Corniche breakwater.
